Introduction of NC Planer

Linear motion machine tool for planer, groove or formed surface of workpiece with planer. With planer, the cutting tool is simple, but the productivity is low (except for long and narrow planes), so it is mainly used in single piece, small batch production and machine repair workshop, and is often replaced by milling machine in large batch production. According to the structure and performance, planers are mainly divided into bull head planer, gantry planer, single arm planer and specialized planer (such as edge planer for edge part of large steel plate, planer punch and planer for complex shape workpiece). The bull head planer is named for its shape similar to that of the bull head. The planer cutter is mounted on the tool holder of the sliding pillow for longitudinal reciprocating motion, and is mostly used for cutting various planes and grooves. The gantry planer is named for a gantry frame structure consisting of a top beam and a column. The worktable moves straight and reciprocating with the workpiece through the gantry frame. It is mostly used to process large planes (especially long and narrow planes), grooves or planes of several small and medium-sized parts at the same time. Large gantry planer often has milling head and grinding head and other parts, so that the workpiece can complete the work of planer, milling and grinding surface after one installation. The single arm planer has a single column and a cantilever, and the worktable moves longitudinally and reciprocally along the bed guide rail. It is mostly used to process the workpiece with large width and does not need to be processed on the whole width.

The tool or workpiece moves in a reciprocating straight line, and the workpiece and the tool move in intermittent motion perpendicular to the main motion. Commonly used planers are: bull head planer, gantry planer and single arm planer.
